Incentivised customer loyalty programmes don't create loyalty and that's a fact. Having worked with one of the largest supermarkets, we have seen first hand how incentivised offers traditionally used to drive up repeat purchase (often used as an indicator of loyalty) does not create the required uplift and therefore change of habit - but often simply only brings orders forward.
However, offering added value through improved experiences that genuinely make your customers choices easier or shows them how to better use your products - make them go further etc dependent upon their specific needs will create a relationship that will be hard to break.
